i Report- Soil Investigation:, Fortner UPRR Service Yard Page$ Project No. 376.2 May 9, 2003 4.0 CONCLUSIONS The conclusions presented below are based on an interpretation of the data collected during the installation of the soil boring. Former Underground Tank The soil and groundwater samples�.collected from soil boring SB-1 suggest the former tank leaked to impact the soil and groundwater with both diesel ' fuel and gasoline. The 19-foot soil sample contained 206 ppm of degraded. gasoline and 1,390 ppm of diesel. . The 35-foot soil sample did not contain detectable gasoline and was not tested for diesel fuel. The groundwater contained approximately %2 ppin of'both degraded gasoline and diesel fuel. No MTBE or other oxygenated gasoline additives were found in the samples that were tested. We interpret that at various times the tank was used to store both types of fuel. The lateral extent ofthe contamination,in the groundwater is not known. The San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department is aware that apparent diesel and gasoline contamination was detected in samples from boring SB-1. We expect that the agency may direct Union Pacific Railroad to propose additional work to fuither define the vertical and lateral extent J' of the contamination. Former Dail Spur Two Geo-Probe soil borings were. advanced to a depth of 20 feet at locations ' along the south end central parts of the former rail spur on the eastern j parcel. A soil from each boring was submitted for laboratory analysis. f Both samples were tested for the presence of Total Extractable Petroleum Hydrocarbons.
