1.0 INTRODUCTION AND SITE BACKGROUND
On behalf of Sara Lee Bakery Group, Inc., PSC Industrial Outsourcing, LP (PSC) has
' prepared this quarterly groundwater monitoring report for the former Colombo/Toscana
Bakery (Colombo/Toscana) site located at 1444 South Lincoln Street in Stockton, California
(Site). This report summarizes the quarterly groundwater monitoring activities performed by
' PSC and their subcontractor ETIC Engineering, Inc. (ETIC) on January 12, 2010. This report
presents the quarterly monitoring data, Site background information, chronology of corrective
action performed, and a status of the current activities at the Site.
' I.I. Description of Site and Vicinity
The Site occupies approximately 0.9 acre of land in Stockton, California (Figure 1). The Site
' is located in Township 1 North, Range 6 East of the Mount Diablo Baseline and Meridian.
This location corresponds to—121.293453 longitude and 37.9369533 latitude.
' The Site is located in an area occupied by commercial and industrial businesses (Figure 2). It
is bordered to the north by a former Texaco service station (now vacant), to the east by a
vacant lot, to the south by a former Dolly Madison bakery site (1426 South Lincoln Street),
' and to the west by South Lincoln Street. Beyond South Lincoln Street, to the west, is a
Chevron station and the City of Stockton Corporate Yard. Five of the surrounding properties
are open Leaking Underground Fuel Tank (LUFT) sites. The City of Stockton Corporate
' Yard also has reported releases of petroleum products.
The majority of the Site is occupied by a warehouse building (Figure 3). Adjacent to the
' western and northern sides of the building is an asphalt-paved parking area and driveway.
Adjacent to the eastern side of the building is an unpaved, fenced yard. Previously,
Colombo/Toscana operated a distribution depot for bakery products at the Site. Mr. Edward
' Overton currently owns the Site and uses the warehouse building for storage.
1.2. UST History and Site Chronology
Colombo/Toscana owned and operated two 4,000-gallon gasoline underground storage tank
(UST) systems for fleet refueling at the Site. The USTs were located west of and adjacent to
the warehouse building. The fuel dispenser was located inside the building near the
' northwestern corner. The removal of the UST systems and subsequent environmental
investigations, remediation efforts, and groundwater monitoring activities are summarized in
the following subsections.
1.2.1 Removal of UST System
' The 4,000-gallon gasoline USTs and the fuel dispenser were removed for permanent closure
in February 1994. The location of the former USTs is depicted on Figure 3. During the UST
removal, the San Joaquin Health District (SJHD) inspector noted three '/2-inch diameter holes
' on the bottom of the southern UST (SJHD, 1994). No record is available to confirm whether
the associated UST system piping was removed during the closure activities. Following
removal, four soil samples were collected from the excavation floor at approximately 13 feet
' Quarterly Groundwater Monitoring Report
First Quarter—January 2010
Prepared For:Sara Lee Bakery Group,Inc.
