The CPT survey was performed
in general accordance with the work scrape proposed in SECOR's Work Plan dated November 24, 1997 and
approved by San Joaquin County Environmental Health Division(SJCEHD)in a letter dated December 12,
1997.
CPT SURVEY
Objective and Technical Approach
The results of prior Site investigations revealed the presence of petroleum hydrocarbon-affected soil and
groundwater beneath the Site to a minimum depth of 85 feet below ground surface(bgs). Based on.the depth
of investigation required to further assess the vertical and lateral extent of petroleum hydrocarbon-affected
groundwater underlying the Site, SECOR recommended performing a CPT survey. A CPT rig provides a
rapid, reliable, and economical means of determining stratigraphy, hydrogeologic characteristics (hydrostatic
head and relative permeability)and collecting multiple depth discrete soil and/or groundwater samples without
generating waste cuttings.
Pre-Field Activities
Before initiation of field activities,SECOR updated the existing Site-specific Health and Safety Plan(RASP)
to address the proposed scope of work and obtained well construction permits from the SJCEHD. The
proposed CPT locations were cleared with respect to underground utilities and other obstructions using a
professional utility locator and Underground Service Alert(USA)was notified 48-hours in advance of field
activities.
Field Activities
1 A total of three CPT soundings were advanced at the Site between December 29 and 30, 1997. cluster at the
locations shown on Figure 2. Three CPT locations proposed in SECOR's November 24, 1997 Work Plan
were not advanced for the following reasons: 1)the two proposed CPT soundings located within the building
were not advanced because the size of the CPT rig prohibited it from entering the building;and 2)the proposed
. % CPT sounding located on the southern edge of the Site between the on-Site building and property line was not
advanced due to presence of multiple hand dug holes which the CPT rig could not safely negotiate.
H:ISFFBISTOCKTONNCPTSURV2.RPT SECOR International Incorporated
90 New Montgomery Street, Suite 620, San Francisco, CA 94105-4503 (415)882-1548 (415)882-4406 FAX www.secor.com
