Mr. Travis Bryant Project 22605-101.001
January 27, 1997
Page 3
and analyzed to determine disposal options. The composite soil sample will be analyzed
for TPHG, BTEX, total lead, reactivity, corrosivity, and ignitabilty. EMCON will contract
Manley and Sons of Sacramento, California, or a similar company, for disposal of drill
cuttings at an appropriate facility.
Decontamination water generated during drilling activities will be stored in Department of
Transportation 55-gallon drums. EMCON will contract IWM of Milpitas, California, or a
similar company, for disposal of decontamination water at an appropriate facility.
Subtask 2.6 - Additional Soil Borings
Based on field observations (photoionization detector readings, soil discoloration), if
hydrocarbons are detected in the initial soil boring, EMCON will contract a licensed well driller
to drill two exploratory borings using 8-inch diameter hollow-stem auger drilling equipment
(see Figure 2). The borings will be drilled to assess the lateral extent of hydrocarbons, if
warranted, and advanced to approximately 25 feet bgs.
Soil samples will be collected at approximately 5-foot intervals and will be classified using the
USCS. Select soil samples will be submitted to a California state-certified analytical laboratory
and will be analyzed for TPHG using USEPA Method 8015; BTEX and MTBE using USEPA
Method 8020; and total lead using USEPA Method 7420.
The borings will be grouted to the surface with neat cement following the collection of soil
samples. Soil and decontamination water will be disposed of following the above-stated
protocol(see Subtask 2A).
Task 3 - Report Preparation
EMCON will prepare a report summarizing the results of the subsurface investigation. The
report will include analytical results of soil samples, an isoconcentration map, conclusions
and recommendations.
SACW:\PJZ,2605\26051010.1 AB-94\11b:2
