L
r.. Well Destruction Work Plan Advanced Environmental Concepts,Inc.
V
excavations were based on the same criteria and continued until all indicsations of contaminated soil had been
removed.
+ AEC performed the excavation procedures using a track-mounted excavator and a front loader. A total
estimated volume of 3,490 yds' of soil was excavated during the course of this project. Of this volume,
approximately 935 ydS3 of gasoline-impacted soil and 27 yds' of diesel-impacted soil were excavated and
a. removed for treatment on an adjoining parcel; approximately 2,528 total yds' of "clean" overburden was
excavated and stockpiled separately in order to allow access to the deeper contaminated soil horizon. (These
volumes were excavated from two separate UST emplacements of the following approximate dimensions:
Diesel Pit-12 feet wide, 15 feet long, soil removed from average depth of 8 to 12 feet BGL; Gasoline Pit: 50
+ feet wide, 130 feet long, soil removed from depths ranging from 4 to 16 feet BGL. The impacted soil was
primarily located in the zone of the capillary fringe and excavation effectively served as "source removal"to
attenuate continued degradation of groundwater quality from gasoline. Sidewall and floor samples were
collected and analyzed in order to confirm the complete removal of contaminated soil.
The October 1997 samples were analyzed by Associated Laboratories,a certified laboratory located in Orange.
The July 1998 samples were analyzed by Baseline On-Site Analysis,a certified laboratory located in Huntington
Beach. Analytical results of these confirmation samples are presented in Tables 1 thru 4.
TABLE -1
w Analytical Results -Confirmation Samples - Diesel Pit Area
10106/97
(ppm)
w..
CONSTITUENT TPH-D MTBE BENZENE TOLUENE ETHYLBENZENE XYLENES
SAMPLE I.D.
DSL-12' ND ND ND ND ND ND
DSL-E-10' ND ND ND ND ND ND
rr DSL-N-11' ND ND ND ND ND ND
DSL-S-11' ND ND ND ND ND ND
`r DSL-W-11' ND ND ND ND ND ND
DETECTION 10 .005 .005 .005 .005 .015
LIMIT
V
V
Protect: AEC 98V-1960 2
w
-ENVIRONMENTAL CONCEPTS WITH DESIGN IN MIND -
4400 ASHE ROAD.#206 • BAKERSFIELD.CA 93313 805/831-1646 FAX 805/831-1771
it
