Career Aviation operated three underground storage
tanks at this site that were removed in 1997 . Soil samples collected from
beneath the Career Aviation tanks after they were removed were positive for
petroleum hydrocarbon constituents upon analysis .
Official notification that their site had been placed in the LOP and a SJC/EHD
letter were sent to Career Aviation at their Las Vegas address on
August 277 1997 (copy attached ) . Subsequent SJC/EHD correspondence sent to
Career Aviation was returned marked undeliverable (copy attached ) .
The Career Aviation tanks were located near several other UST's operated by
various companies . These UST's are collectively referred to as the Airport tank
farm , which is also a listed LOP contaminated UST site . An investigation of the
Airport tank farm has been started with the installation of three groundwater
monitoring wells that are currently being monitored and sampled quarterly. All
three wells exhibit petroleum hydrocarbon contamination in the groundwater. It is
most likely that the contamination from the former Career Aviation UST' s and the
Airport tank farm UST's have commingled into one plume .
SJC/EHD requests that you , as the responsible party to the former Career
Aviation UST's , please contact Mr. Barry Rondinella at the Stockton Metropolitan
Airport to coordinate efforts and resources in the continued investigation of this
contaminated area . Mr. Rondinella can be reached at (209 ) 468-4700 .
