25 September 1995
AGE-NC Project No. 95-0100
the former fuel dispenser island. Low concentrations of volatile aromatics were detected in one
sample from boring B4. Based upon results of the site assessment, impacted soil is present only in
the area of the former dispenser island.
2.4. GROUND WATER DEPTH AND FLOW DIRECTION
The Well Completion Report for a domestic water well drilled in January of 1992 states that water
was encountered near the site at a depth of 54 feet. According to the San Joaquin County Flood
Control Map (Fall 1990), the prevailing ground water flow direction is to the north.
3.0. SCOPE OF WORK
In accordance with California Code of Regulations Title 23,feasibility studies of remedial alternatives
must be performed to determine cleanup methods for contaminated UST,sites. AGE has proposed
the installation of soil vapor extraction wells and performance of a soil vapor extraction pilot test.
PHS-EHD concurred with AGEs recommendations in a letter dated 8 June 1995.
In addition to the installation of vapor extraction wells, at least one soil sample will be submitted to
a laboratory for physicochemical analysis and microbiological enumeration; data from these analyses
will assist in determining the feasibility of in-situ bioremediation at the site.
4.0. PROCEDURES
4.1. INSTALLATION OF SOIL VAPOR EXTRACTION WELLS
For the installation of soil vapor extraction wells, the following procedures will be performed:
1. Prepare a Site Health and Safety Plan in accordance with the Occupational Safety and Health
Guidance Manual for Hazardous Waste Site Activities - Prepared by National Institute for
Occupational Safety and Health, Occupational Safety and Health Administration, U.S. Coast
Guard and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, October 1985.
2. Notify the PHS-EHD 48 hours prior to commencement of any work.
3. Drill one soil boring at the north end of the former dispenser island (VW-1). A second soil
boring(VW-2)will be drilled approximately 20 feet southwest of the former dispenser island.
Each boring will be drilled using a truck-mounted drill rig equipped with continuous-flight,
8-inch diameter hollow-stem augers. The borings will be drilled to depths of 35 feet. The
boring locations are depicted on Figure 2.
