4 k%j KLEENFEE.DER
5 REPORT OF FINDINGS
L.
- Quantitative chemical analysis of the three ground water samples did not indicate the
presence of petroleum hydrocarbon constituents, DBCP, or EDB above laboratory
reporting limits. Laboratory reports are contained in Appendix C.
Toluene was detected at low concentrations in the three samples but the laboratory reports
state that the results for this constituent should not be considered reliable at such low levels
because it is a common laboratory contaminant. Acetone also was detected at a low
concentration and was thought to be a laboratory contaminant.
• Carbon disulfide was detected at significant concentrations in the three samples and a
source for this compound was not immediately apparent. A telephone conversation on
October 1 1991 with Nick Berzins of BAT Envitech, the supplier of the BAT sampling
equipment, revealed that carbon disulfide had been detected in the past using the BAT
Probe. He felt that it was very likely that the rubber parts on the BAT Probe were the
y source of carbon disulfide. A BAT Probe blank sample (sample number 67465) was drawn
on September 30 1991 to assess whether carbon disulfide could still be detected. Carbon
disulfide was not detected but because carbon disulfide is highly volatile it is likely that it
had dissipated during the time between opening the new package of supplies in Lathrop on
.. September 20 and the time the blank was drawn.
On the basis of this ground water assessment and the analytical results, the ground water at
the 100 East Louise Avenue site in Lathrop does not appear to be affected by petroleum
hydrocarbon constituents, DBCP, EDB or by other volatile organic constituents included in
y the 8240 analysis. Based on the findings, Kleinfelder does not recommend additional
assessment at the site.
LA
V
Eir
FR25-91-22 Page 6 of 7
Copyright 1991 Kleinfelder, Inc.
