BALBI&CHANG ASSOCIATES
Samples selected for chemical testing are delivered to analytical laboratories the same day of
sampling or within three days of the sampling date. According to EPA standards, samples must
be processed and tested within the holding time set forth by EPA. These times varies from 48
hours to 28 days depending upon the requested test. A chain-of-custody record form is
maintained for all samples during travel to the laboratory.
Samples of potential contamination or of known contamination are stored in a refrigerator
(designated for the storage of this type of samples only) at a temperature of 4•C. Those samples
are kept for approximately 20 to 30 days from the sampling date, at which time they are
extruded, properly disposed of, and the sample tubes are cleaned with TSP and rinsed with
water. Other type of samples are held in regular sample storage area for 30 to 60 days from
the sampling date, at which time they are discarded and the sample tubes are cleaned for the next
project.
i
I
3 of 3
i
