• Preliminary Environmental Assessment Report <br /> Pittman Elementary School,Stockton,CA <br /> December 10,2003 <br /> Page 4 <br /> • Eight discrete surface samples (B 1 through B8) were collected off-site on adjacent land to the north, east, <br /> and west of the site for the purpose of obtaining background data pertaining to metals. The sample <br /> locations are shown on Figure 3, Appendix A. <br /> Second discrete samples (1_16-5 and L16-D) were collected from the same sampling location as L15-S <br /> and Ll5-Dand analyzed for the same constituents for quality assurance/quality control purposes. <br /> The surface (0 to 6 inches) and subsurface (2.0 to 2.5 feet) samples were collected using a stainless steel <br /> hand auger and transferring the soil directly from the hand auger into laboratory-supplied glass jars. Each <br /> sample container was labeled for sample identification and placed in a cooler chilled with ice. The <br /> stainless steel hand augers were decontaminated in the field with a solution of laboratory-grade, non- <br /> phosphate detergent and deionized water and rinsed with deionized water prior to use at each surface and <br /> subsurface sample location. The equipment blank sample was collected following soil sample collection <br /> and subsequent decontamination by running deionized water through the sampling equipment and <br /> collected the water in laboratory-supplied containers. The samples were shipped in a cooler chilled with <br /> ice under chain-of-custody procedures via overnight carrier to Severn Trent Laboratories, Inc. in Arvada, <br /> Colorado, for analyses. <br /> 5.2 STRUCTURE DRIPLINE SAMPLES <br /> Discrete surface (0 to 6 inches) and subsurface (2.0 to 2.5 feet) soil samples were collected from the <br /> vicinities of each of the eighteen structures on site. The soil samples were collected from soil located <br /> along the driplines of each of the eighteen structures on site, where accessible. Where asphalt or concrete <br /> • was present, a jackhammer was used to remove the concrete or asphalt, and the soil samples were <br /> collected from the soil under the surface material. Four soil samples and three paint chip samples were <br /> collected from seven locations from the driplines of the property warehouse and transportation buildings. <br /> The eight houses, six sheds/garages, the Delta Center, and the sewage screening plant building had <br /> samples collected from four locations along the driplines. The rehabilitation building at the southwest <br /> comer of the property had soil samples collected from approximately seven locations along its driplines. <br /> The discrete surface soil samples were analyzed for lead. The deeper discrete soil samples (2 to 2.5 feet <br /> bgs) were archived frozen by the laboratory pending the laboratory results of the surface samples. Second <br /> discrete samples (P21-S, P21-D, P32-S, and P32-D) were collected from the same sampling locations as <br /> P20-S,P20-D, P31-S, and P31-D,respectively, for quality assurance/quality control purposes. <br /> The subsurface soil samples were analyzed for lead if the surface soil sample lead results were equal to <br /> or greater than 110 milligrams per kilogram (mg/kg). Based on the surface sample results, 30 subsurface <br /> soil samples were analyzed for lead.
