' 0
1
' 6.2.1 Inorganic Sampling
Sampling of inorganic constituents at the Site will occur as shown on Figure 4, Appendix
' A. One discrete composite CAM 17 sample and 1 discrete arsenic sample will be
collected from each parcel. Four background samples and QA/QC second, co-located
samples will be obtained in accordance with PEA Manual guidelines.
' CAM 17
One discrete CAM 17 sample will be collected per parcel at 0 to 6 inches (bgs). CAM 17
' samples will be lab composited at a maximum 4:1 ratio with the other parcels at the Site.
A total of 5 composite samples will comprise the CAM 17 metal sampling at the Site.
Due to property accessibility, the exact compositing scheme will not be determined until
sampling has occurred in the field. The compositing scheme will never exceed a 4:1
ratio. Additional soil samples at 2 feet bgs and 4 feet bgs will be collected and held by
the lab pending surface results.
' In addition, four co-located samples unidentifiable to the lab will be collected for QA/QC
purposes. Four background samples will be collected using the same method described
' above at 5 feet bgs or at a minimum of 2 feet below any undisturbed soil from each of the
4 quadrants at the Site. See Figure 4 in Appendix A for proposed sample locations.
' Arsenic
One discrete arsenic sample will be collected from each parcel at the surface (0 to 6
inches bgs). A total of 20 discrete samples will comprise the arsenic sampling at the Site.
' In addition,a minimum of 2 second co-located samples unidentifiable to the lab will be
collected for QA/QC purposes. See Figure 4 for proposed sample locations.Additional
soil samples at 2 feet bgs and 4 feet bgs will be collected and held by the lab pending
' surface results.
6.2.2 Soil Vapor Samples
' Due to the nature of several off Site contaminate plumes in multiple directions and the
location of the Site being above a former natural gas field, six on Site soil vapor samples
' (SV S's)borings will be made. All of the samples will be collected in or near areas of the
Site which lie underneath proposed school buildings. Three samples will be collected at
or near the locations of the three former water wells that existed on Site in 1895. (To
' locate the position of the former water wells,a ground penetrating radar (GPR) will be
used. Two of these historic wells are located under proposed school buildings. See
Appendix A, Figure 5: Soil Vapor Sampling for the proposed sample locations and
Appendix C: Soil Boring Location Map for the proposed building locations. All of these
locations have been discussed previously with DTSC project managers.
All sample collection and analysis will be completed with guidance from the DTSC's
Advisory on Active Soil Gas Investigations (DTSC,January 28,2003). The borings will
be advanced using a Strataprobe®percussion hammer(direct push method) with a sample
PEA Workplan 18
Spanos Elementary School
January 18,2006
