1 • <br /> i <br /> 'e00' rca(2'ecfsnics Inc Page 2 <br /> Soil and Groundwater Investigation Work Plan <br /> ' Cardoza(Main St} <br /> j Project No 662 2 <br /> October 18, 1999 <br /> I <br /> These boreholes will be drilled using an 8-inch outside diameter, continuous flight, hollow <br /> stem auger owned and operated by V&W Drilling (C57# 720904) The expected depth to <br /> ' groundwater is approximately 25 to 30 feet below ground surface <br /> The boring, MW-1, will be drilled near the north end of the former tank location The <br /> i ' borings for MW-2 and MW-3 will be drilled to the west and south, respectively, of the <br /> former tank pit The borings will be drilled to a depth of approximately 40 to 45 feet bgs <br /> Soil samples will be collected at five-foot intervals as described in Section 2 2 A monitoring <br /> well will be installed in these boreholes as described in section 2 3 <br /> 2.2 Soil Sampling Procedure <br /> Soil samples will be collected for geological and analytical evaluation at 5-foot intervals in <br /> these three boreholes A boring log providing sediment description using the USCS and field <br /> j observations will be maintained by a professional geologist working under the supervision of <br /> a registered geologist Soil samples will be collected in 6 0-inch brass liners using a 2 0 inch <br /> modified California split spoon sampler All soil samples will be sealed with Teflon, capped <br /> with Teflon end caps, labeled and placed in a cooler at 4° Celsius for transport to the <br /> laboratory following Chain of Custody protocol <br /> Since only selected soil samples will be submitted for laboratory analysis, a screening <br /> process will be used to gather additional information through field observation including <br /> ' • sediment type, especially grain size and clay content <br /> • moisture content <br /> • visible evidence of contamination, 1 e , color change due to reduction of iron or <br /> discoloration from hydrocarbons and other pollutants <br /> • readings above background on a organic vapor meter(OVM) <br /> The OVM is a portable photo ionization detector that uses a 10 0 eV lamp to detect <br /> ' compounds with ionization potential below 10 0 eV (hydrocarbon range) <br /> 2.3 Monitoring Well Construction <br /> The monitoring well will be constructed using 2 0 inch inside diameter PVC casing with <br /> flush threads Groundwater is expected to be located approximately 25 to 30 feet below <br /> ' grade The well will be secured with a locking watertight cap encased in flush mounted <br /> traffic rated well box The table below shows well construction During installation of the <br /> filter pack, the well will be surged to assure maximum filter pack density <br /> ' Well.No. Dia./TD Screen of Sand PackTrans. Seal Grout Seal <br /> sand - - -sur ace <br /> ' = sand _ -s ace <br /> sand _ - uce <br /> This construction may be changed slightly in the field due to geology or depth to water <br /> ' After the well sealing materials have set (>24 hours) the wells will be developed (using <br /> mechanical surging and pumping methods) until a clear stream of water is obtained The <br /> ' well will be purged and groundwater samples collected no sooner than 48 hours after well <br /> 1 <br />
