CJeafo'�caC�eehnus Inc Page 2 <br /> Addrtlonal Investigation Work Plan <br /> Cardoza(Mani St) <br /> Project No 662 2 <br /> January 15,2001 <br /> tboreholes (GP-3 through GP-9), collect soil and groundwater samples, and analyze these <br /> samples for petroleum hydrocarbon compounds <br /> ' The proposed locations of the GeoProbes are illustrated in Figure 2 The locations are <br /> intended to define the down gradient (east to southeast, Figure 3) extent of the groundwater <br /> plume The actual location of the probes will be determined in the field, as numerous utility <br /> lines exist both above and below ground surface <br /> 2.1 GeoProbe/Hydropunch Survey <br /> ' Soil Core Sampling <br /> Seven GeoProbe boreholes will be drilled as indicated in Figure 2 Soil samples will be <br /> collected at five-foot intervals down to the capillary fnnge <br /> ' The boreholes will be drilled with a GeoProbe rig owned and operated by V&W Drilling of <br /> Rio Vista, CA (C57# 720904) The GeoProbe advances a coring tool with a pneumatic <br /> ' hammer to a selected depth Upon reaching that depth the coring tool is opened and <br /> advanced further to fill the core barrel The soil sample enters an acetate cylinder contained <br /> in the coring tool Upon filling, the coring tool is pulled from the hole and the cylinder is <br /> removed The cylinder is then cut and the selected interval is capped with Teflon end caps <br /> and placed on ice for shipment to the laboratory The remainder is used for geologic <br /> logging <br /> Up to ten soil samples will be submitted to the laboratory for analysis, with the capillary <br /> fnnge soil sample from each borehole analyzed as a minimum <br /> ' Groundwater Grab Sampling <br /> Based on the November 10, 2000 monitoring event, the expected depth to groundwater is <br /> approximately 20 feet below ground surface (bgs) Upon reaching the capillary fringe a <br /> hydropunch type sampling tool will be advanced 3 feet into the groundwater and a <br /> ' groundwater sample will be collected The samples are collected from a mini stainless steel <br /> bailer and gently transferred into VOA vials The VOA vial is capped, inverted, tapped, and <br /> checked for headspace bubbles The vial will be labeled and placed on ice for shipment to <br /> ' the laboratory Clean surgical gloves are worn at all times in handling of the sample and <br /> sampling equipment The bailer is cleaned between uses with an Alconox solution <br /> ' After the groundwater grab sample is collected the borehole will be closed with a neat <br /> cement grout containing less then 4% bentonite <br /> 2.2 Soil Laboratory Analyses <br /> Up to 10 soil samples will be submitted to Sherwood Laboratories of Hilmar(State Certified <br /> Laboratory #1400) for analysis for <br /> • Benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylene (BTEX) by EPA method 8020 <br /> • Gasoline range petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH-G) by EPA method 5030/8015(m) <br /> • Methyl Tertiary Butyl Ether(MTBE) by EPA method 8020 <br /> .
