CJeafo'caCeehnus Inc Page 2
Addrtlonal Investigation Work Plan
Cardoza(Mani St)
Project No 662 2
January 15,2001
tboreholes (GP-3 through GP-9), collect soil and groundwater samples, and analyze these
samples for petroleum hydrocarbon compounds
' The proposed locations of the GeoProbes are illustrated in Figure 2 The locations are
intended to define the down gradient (east to southeast, Figure 3) extent of the groundwater
plume The actual location of the probes will be determined in the field, as numerous utility
lines exist both above and below ground surface
2.1 GeoProbe/Hydropunch Survey
' Soil Core Sampling
Seven GeoProbe boreholes will be drilled as indicated in Figure 2 Soil samples will be
collected at five-foot intervals down to the capillary fnnge
' The boreholes will be drilled with a GeoProbe rig owned and operated by V&W Drilling of
Rio Vista, CA (C57# 720904) The GeoProbe advances a coring tool with a pneumatic
' hammer to a selected depth Upon reaching that depth the coring tool is opened and
advanced further to fill the core barrel The soil sample enters an acetate cylinder contained
in the coring tool Upon filling, the coring tool is pulled from the hole and the cylinder is
removed The cylinder is then cut and the selected interval is capped with Teflon end caps
and placed on ice for shipment to the laboratory The remainder is used for geologic
logging
Up to ten soil samples will be submitted to the laboratory for analysis, with the capillary
fnnge soil sample from each borehole analyzed as a minimum
' Groundwater Grab Sampling
Based on the November 10, 2000 monitoring event, the expected depth to groundwater is
approximately 20 feet below ground surface (bgs) Upon reaching the capillary fringe a
hydropunch type sampling tool will be advanced 3 feet into the groundwater and a
' groundwater sample will be collected The samples are collected from a mini stainless steel
bailer and gently transferred into VOA vials The VOA vial is capped, inverted, tapped, and
checked for headspace bubbles The vial will be labeled and placed on ice for shipment to
' the laboratory Clean surgical gloves are worn at all times in handling of the sample and
sampling equipment The bailer is cleaned between uses with an Alconox solution
' After the groundwater grab sample is collected the borehole will be closed with a neat
cement grout containing less then 4% bentonite
2.2 Soil Laboratory Analyses
Up to 10 soil samples will be submitted to Sherwood Laboratories of Hilmar(State Certified
Laboratory #1400) for analysis for
• Benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylene (BTEX) by EPA method 8020
• Gasoline range petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH-G) by EPA method 5030/8015(m)
• Methyl Tertiary Butyl Ether(MTBE) by EPA method 8020
. The detection limits for these compounds are listed below A Chain of Custody will be
completed for all samples collected and tracked to ensure sample integrity
