GeologualTechnicsInc Page 6
' Soil and Groundwatei Investigation Work Plan
Cardoza(Main St)
Piglect No 662 2
January 17,2003
' 3.4 Extraction Well Installation
' A groundwater extraction well, EW-1, will be placed in the former UST excavation This
well will be constructed as outlined in the table below, based on the continuous core log of
MW-104
Well o a Screen of and Packrans. rout ca
Seal
W "7 - -0' 1-2 sa—and 36-5 - -sur ace
Aquifer pumping test details are discussed in Section 6 below
' 3.5 Receptoi Survey
GTI completed a well survey for a 2,000-foot radius around the site in July 2000 The
purpose of the survey was to locate any municipal, domestic, or agricultural wells within a
' 2,000-ft radius This work was documented in our July 27, 2000 "Well Receptor Survey"
report submitted to SJC/EHD and the RWQCB in July 2000 This work will not be
repeated, however the entire site will be marked for a USA survey to determine if utility
' conduits could be acting as preferential pathways for contaminant migration
4 0 GROUNDWATER MONITORING
The new wells will be incorporated into the current quarterly sampling/monitoring schedule
4 1 Groundwater Sampling Pi ocedure
Before sampling is attempted the wells will be sounded for depth to water and then a clear
' disposable bailer will be used to deterintne if floating product is present The wells will be
purged of at least 3 well volumes of stagnant water using a submersible pump, a dedicated
Watena pump or a stainless steel bailer Purging will continue until the temperature,
conductivity, and pH of the groundwater has stabilized (<10% variation between three
readings) indicating that formation water representative of aquifer conditions entering the
well is being sampled These water quality parameters aie measured at intervals of each
well volume purged
' A stainless steel bailer, disposable plastic bailer or dedicated Waterra pump will be used to
collect each sample Care will be taken to minimize sample agitation from the initial filling
of the bailer to the transfer of the sample to the VOA via] and glass amber liter bottles
Once the sample container is filled and capped, the bottle will be inverted, tapped, and
checked for headspace bubbles The sample container is identified and labeled with a
unique designation, inserted into foam holders and placed in an ice chest cooled to 4°C for
' transport to the laboratory
All non.-disposable sampling equipment will be decontaminated using a steam cleaner
' before and between uses The effectiveness of the decontamination procedure is ensured by
using the following quality control measures
