+ Cleo kgkoITechnics!►u. "'1 N-.O Page 7
Interim Remedial Action Plan
Project No.622.2
March 28, 2005
• Gauges on individual wells to measure vacuum;
• Gauges on the piping connection between the various GAC units to measure pressure
drop across the system;
• Air flow measurements for mass removal calculations;
Water flow measurements for mass removal calculations;
• Sampling ports on both influent and effluents of dual phase extraction system and carbon
units.
Monitoring of the dual phase extraction system will take place daily for the first week,
. weekly for the remainder of the first month, biweekly for the next two months and then
monthly thereafter. Sampling will be conducted at permit startup and at intervals specified
by the SJVUAPCD permit(s). This includes effluent samples from the lead and/or
La intermediate units to detect contaminant breakthrough.
3.1.3.1 Vapor Monitoring/Sampling Procedure
The methods and procedures used for collecting the vapor extraction data for determining
contaminant mass and maximizing system efficiency are as follows:
❑ The air velocity will be measured with a Solomat 500e Multifunctional Environmental
Instrument. The total extracted airflow velocity will be measured by inserting a
manometer pitot tube probe into a port on the system manifold and reading the value
displayed by the instrument. The air flow from individual wells will also be measured in
.. a similar fashion.
o Vacuum in extraction wells will be measured by gauges.
❑ The vacuum pressure in nearby monitoring wells will be measured by attaching an
., airtight cap to the well top. The cap will have an orifice that accepts the pressure-
measuring instrument. The peak value is recorded after the reading has stabilized. Wells
showing response to vacuum pressure will demonstrate the vadose zone pneumatic
. conductivity.
❑ Organic vapor meter (OVM) readings will be obtained from each extraction well at the
system manifold. The vacuum will be adjusted between the wells to promote maximum
Lo removal efficiency.
❑ A vacuum pump will be used to collect combined vapor samples at the system manifold.
❑ A log of system activities and measured settings will be kept for each monitoring event
• and a copy kept on site.
Vapor samples will be collected in one-liter capacity Tedlar bags and submitted to a state
certified laboratory for BTEX, MTBE and TPH-G analysis by method TO-3. The reporting
limits are listed below.
+i Detection Limits: BTEX MTBE TPH-G
Air ( 1) 0.0032 0.092 0.1
