Main)
Lodi, CA
San Joaquin County Public Health Services, Environmental Health
Division (PHS/EHD) has reviewed the "Quarterly Groundwater
Monitoring" report dated November 29, 1993 , prepared by Steffen
Robertson and Kirsten Inc. (SRK) for the above referenced site. In
addition the history and results of soil and groundwater samples
were presented to the PHS/EHD Technical Review Committee for
comments and discussion.
The quarterly report states that "lead was not detected in
analytical soil samples collected during monitoring well
installation in 1991" ; unfortunately$ the lab that analyzed those
soil samples was not certified by the California Department of
Health Services for lead analysis. Therefore, PHS/EHD will not
accept those results as representative of site conditions.
The quarterly report also states that "the constituents of BTEX or
TPH have not been detected in 6 quarters of groundwater
monitoring" . In November 1991, low levels of Toluene were detected
in monitoring wells SRK-MW2 and SRK-MW3. In February 1993 , Benzene
was detected in monitoring well SRK-MW2 and Ethylbenzene and Xylene
were detected in monitoring well SRK-MW3.
The PHS/EHD Technical Review Committee recommends that a boring be
placed through the middle of the former tank location, soil samples
be collected at 15 feet, 20 feet, 25 feet, 30 feet, and 35 feet
below grade, and the samples analyzed for BTEX, TPH, and Total Lead
by a California Department of Health Services (CDHS) lab certified
for test methods listed in Central Valley Regional Water Quality
Control Board Tri-Regional Board Staff Recommendations (TRBR) Table
#2 (copy enclosed) . This will provide information as to whether
soil contamination exists from an unauthorized release from the
former underground tanks.
In addition, the PHS/EHD Technical Review Committee recommends two
A Division of San.Joaquin County Health Care Services
