P
Phan F[•Int,
J'Ap 2
levels of BTX and lead, however the BTX detection limit was 1 ppm,and the lead detectiosi limit
04
was 10 ppm. Furthermore, the analytical groundwater results did not detect B'TX(detection limit
}` of 20 ppb).
In a correspondence dated October 15, 1991, the San Joaquin County Public Health
i Services/Environmental Health Department (PHS/EHD) questioned the validity analytical data
obtained during Ilie subsurface investigation performed by J.H.Mcinfelder&Associates. Specific
i areas of concern were the high BTX detection limits of the soil and groundwater analyses, the
sandy soil conditions observed at the base of the former tank location, and the lack of drilling
t logs/inonitoring well construction data for the temporary monitoring %yell. A copy of this
correspondence is provided in Appendix B. 'Elie PHS/EHD currently recommends a BTX
detection limit of 0.005 ppm (soil)and 5 ppb (water). Furthermore, the PHS/EHD did not feel
that the horizontal and vertical extent of contaminant migration had been adequately addressed.
l ` 20 SCOPE OF SERVICES
; w
The scope of work for the Phase II Environmental Audit includes:
Submitting a work plan to PHS/EHD stating the proposed number and location of test
holes and monitoring wells, soil sampling plan, typical monitoring well construction
diagrams, and a Site Safety Plan. This data is included in Appendix C.
f.
Obtaining a monitoring well permit a?placation from PHS/EHD stating the number of
moni, oring wells and their approxima.c locations at the Diamond Lumber site.
Collecting split spoon soil samples at live Foot depth intervals during the drilling of each
well for soil classification and field screening of organic vapors. Submitting selected soil
samples for laboratory analysis.
• Installing, purging and sampling the wells according to PHS/EHD guidelines.
w Properly abandoning the temporary monitoring well according to PHS/EHD guidelines. i
Determining the localized groundwater gradient by measuring the static water level
— relative to the top of casing. A land surveyor will be retained to provide elevations at the
—top of well heads relative to a known datum, and the locations of the wells relative to on-
site structures. This information will be forwarded as an addendum in the near future.
ies•.ur,... - - Sic P[e¢1lobertW¢and}:lnlen -
