PHS/EHD has
prepared the following comments for your consideration.
The Work Plan proposed the drilling and sampling of three additional soil borings to confirm
that remediation of soil contamination is complete. Two vertical borings will be advanced
to groundwater. One slant boring will be inclined towards the south at approximately 30,0
until groundwater is encountered. Soil samples will be collected at five foot intervals and
field screened using a photoionization detector. At minimum four soil samples, 15, 25, 30
and 40 feet below ground surface, will be laboratory analyzed for total petroleum
hydrocarbon-gasoline (TPH-gas) benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylene (BTEX).
The work plan indicated that the methods used for analysis would be EPA 8015, Modified
for TPG-gas and EPA Method 602 for BTEX. EPA Method 602 is water analytical method.
EPA Method 8020 should be used to analyze soil samples for BTEX.
The Work PIan indicated that upon completion of drilling the soil borings would be filled
to the surface with a cement and 5% bentonite grout mixture. The borings must be grouted
from the bottom up through a tremmie pipe or through the augers with a grout approved
by PHS/EHD.
If Spectrum Exploration is not used as the C-57 contractor, a PHS/EHD permit application
and $89 should be submitted to PHS/EHD prior to scheduling field work.
A Division of San Joaquin Counry Health Care Services
