Box 388
Stockton, CA 95201
Subject: Payless Building Supplies - Gasoline Tank Removed Site code: 500140
Dear Mr. Askanas:
The following is a report of the findings of the soil boring and monitoring installation done on Aug.
22, 1997, on the above stated site. The soil boring and monitoring well is located adjacent to the
excavation and removal location of an underground fuel storage tank.
SITE HISTORY
The subject gasoline tank was discovered by the owner and removed in July of 1993 by Thorpe
Oil of Lodi, California. A soil sample taken from the area under the center of the tank at a depth
of 8.5 feet below the surface was analyzed and found to contain elements of BTEX and gasoline
(see attached report from GeoAnalytical Laboratories dated 07120/93).
THE SITE INVESTIGATION SOIL BORING
The soil boring was located on the west side of the underground storage tank in line with the
middle of the excavation. Soil samples were taken at five foot intervals by a split spoon sampler
from a 8" hollow stem auger. Each sample was logged for soil classification and marked for
identification.
Each soil tube was capped with a layer of aluminum foil secured by plastic caps, sealed with duct
tape„ labeled for identification, and stored on ice for transport to the laboratory. Soil samples were
transported under a chain of custody to Sherwood Labs of Hilmar, Ca. for analysis. Samples were
analyzed per EPA Methods 8020 (BTEX), (MTBE), 5030/8015(M) TPH-Gasoline and sample
MW 1 @ 30'was analyzed per EPA Method 7420 for Lead. Sample MW 1 @ 25 was analyzed per
EPA Method 8260 for Oxygenates.
MONITORING WELL INSTALLATION
Site conditions indicated that contamination may be at or near the existing water table. A 2" PVC
monitoring well was installed(see attached detail for well construction). The monitoring well was
purged and sampled by Del-Tech on 8/26197 as per the practices of the industry. The water sample
was analyzed for BTEX, TPH-Gasoline, and Oxygenates.
