(209?368-9391 FAX(209) 367-7163
Ms. Margaret Lagorio February 18, 1998
San Joaquin County Public Health Services
Environmental Health Division
P. O. Box 388
Stockton, CA 95201
Subject: Payless Building Supplies - Gasoline Tank Removed Site code. 500140
Dear Ms. Lagorio:
The following is a report of the analysis of water samples taken on 01/27/98 by Del-Tech under
the supervision of the author and analyzed by Sherwood Labs and West Laboratory.
SITE HISTORY
The subject gasoline tank was discovered by the owner and removed in July of 1993 by Thorpe
Oil of Lodi, California. A soil sample taken from the area under the center of the tank at a depth
of 8.5 feet below the surface was analyzed and found to contain elements of BTEX and gasoline.
A soil boring was made and a monitoring well installed at the tank site on 08/22/97 by Foothill
Engineering. Analysis of the soil and water from the monitoring well found various levels of
gasoline contamination (see attached test summary). Foothill Engineering recommended and
PHS/EHD concurred that the monitoring well be re-sampled to verify the original analysis.
FINDINGS OF THE SECOND MONITORING WELL SAMPLING
A dramatic reduction in contaminate levels for both BTEX and TPHg were found in the analysis
of the set of water samples dated 01127198. TPHg was reduced from 191 ug/L in the sample of
08/26/97 to ND for the last sample(see attached analysis reports).
RECOMMENDATION
It is the recommendation of the author that this UST site be considered for closure. The levels of
contamination in the monitoring well do not present a danger to the underground water supply.
Most likely contamination levels will continue to decline with the passage of time.
Please contact this office if any questions arise concerning this report.
Respectfully submitted,
.S
Foot ' gi eerie Q ()FES
Q N
RIFE Fr
No. 2
O
Ervin Rifenbur PE Exp.W -r
1
