Box 388
Stockton, CA 95201
! Subject: Payless Building Supplies- Gasoline Tank Removed Site code: 500140
Dear Ms. Lagorio,
t
John GrafPxgna, owner of the above stated property, has asked Foothill Engineering to proceed with
an investigation of the area surrounding the removed underground gasoline storage-tank. Original
` analysis of the soil below the storage tank indicated that some gasoline contamination'lay be present.
SITE HISTORY
The subject gasoline tank was removed in July of 1993 by Thorpe Oil of Lodi, California. A soil
sample taken from the area under the center of the*IC at a depth of 8:5 feet below the surface was
analyzed and found to 'contain elements of BTEX and gasoline (see attached report,J from
GeoAnalytical Laboratories dated 07120/93).`
The following is a proposed'work plan.for the site investigation.
THE SITE INVESTIGATION WORK PLAN
1 We propose to place a soil boring at or near the center of the excavation.of the removed underground
storage tank. Soil samples will be taken at ten foot intervals by a split spoon sampler from a hollow
stem auger. Each sampCe will bb'logged'for-soil classification and-marked for iuentificaticn.:
Each soil tube will be capped with a layer'of aluminum foil secured by plastic caps, sealed with duct_
tape, labeled for identification, and stored on ice for transport to the laboratory. Soil samples will be
transported under a chain of custody to Sherwood Labs of Hilmar, Ca.-for analysis: Samples will be
analyzed per EPA Methods 8020 (BTEX), (MTBE), 5030/8015(M) TPH-Gasoline and 7420 for
lead..
If the soil samples or site conditions indicate that the contamination is at or near the existing water
table, a 2" PVC monitoring well will be installed (see attached detail for well construction). The
monitoring well will be purged and sampled as per standard practices_of the, industry. Water samples
will be analyzed for BTEX, TPH-Gasoline, and lead.
A report of all findings will be directed to the San Joaquin County Public Health- Services
Environmental Health Division and the site owner
r
1
i
