01 June 1999 <br /> AGE-NC Project No. 99-0608 <br /> Page 5 of 6 <br /> Soil samples will be collected using Geoprobe push-driven 2-inch diameter discrete and/or <br /> continuous core samplers fitted with four six-inch long brass sleeves or a two-foot long Teflon <br /> sleeve, respectively. Upon removal from the sampler, the sample sleeve is separated with a clean <br /> soil knife. The exposed ends of the sleeve will be covered with Teflon sheets,capped and sealed with <br /> tape. Soils encountered in the borings will be visually classified by an AGE geologist in accordance <br /> with the Unified Soil Classification System (USCS). Additionally, soil samples will be field <br /> screened for the presence of volatile organic compounds using an OVM. <br /> Following sample collection, each preserved sample sleeve will be labeled with the boring location, <br /> depth, time, date and sampler's initials. Appropriately sealed and labeled samples will be placed in <br /> a chilled container under ice and transported under chain-of-custody procedure to a DTSC-certified <br /> laboratory. <br /> 4.3. IN-SITU GROUND WATER SAMPLING PROCEDURES <br /> For the collection of grab ground water samples, soil probe borings will be advanced to the top of <br /> the ground water table as identified by collection of a saturated soil sample. Once ground water has <br /> been encountered, a Geoprobe push-driven water sampling device will be advanced two to three feet <br /> into the water bearing zone. Grab ground water samples will be collected using a Geoprobe water <br /> sampling assembly fitted with a pre-cleaned one-inch 0.01 slotted temporary well screen. Each <br /> ground water sample will be extracted by lowering a Teflon bailer through the hollow center of the <br /> push rods into the screen section. Samples for BTEX and TPH-g analyses will be collected in <br /> laboratory-supplied,40-m1 VOA vials containing 0.5-m1 of hydrochloric acid as sample preservative. <br /> Samples for TPH-d and TPH-mo analyses will be collected in laboratory-supplied, 1-liter amber <br /> bottles. The labeled vials and bottles will be placed in a chilled container under ice and transported <br /> under chain-of-custody to a DTSC-certified laboratory. <br /> 4.4. EQUIPMENT DECONTAMINATION <br /> All sampling tools used for sample collection will be thoroughly rinsed with clean water after being <br /> washed with a solution of Alconox. All probing rods will be cleaned prior to advancement at each <br /> probe boring location. <br /> 4.5.
