1386 EAST BEAMER STREET
ABAGE ESYER1v D, CA 95695-9603
GE4 ENGINEERS HCE
FAX (916) 662-0273
CALIF CONTRACTOR#5I3857 A CORPORATION SEP 0 2 1992 (926) 668-5300
REGISTERED GEOLOGISTS
ENVIRONMENTAL. HEATH
PERMIT/SERVICES
Ms. Laurie A. Cotulla August 28, 1992
Public Health Services
San Joaquin County
Environmental Health Division
RE: USA Petroleum Station #65, 2500 W. Lodi Avenue, Lodi, CA;
letter dated August 19, 1992 to USA Petroleum from PHS/EHD.
USA Petroleum has contracted Western Geo-Engineers to uncover and
render MW4 (previously paved over) to operating condition, this
well will be used for the September Quarterly Monitoring. This
action will be undertaken during the week of August 31, 1992 .
San Joaquin County Public Health Services, Environmental Health
Division (PHS/EHD) will be notified in the future with the advance
48 hour notice to ground water sampling at this site.
Western Geo-Engineers follows established protocol for ground
water sampling. The referenced letter from PHS/EHD stated that
insufficient well volumes were purged prior to ground water
sampling. The current LUFT manual (October 1989 ) in Appendix III
pages A13-14 states that ' a well should be purged until
temperature, conductivity and pH stabilize. Often, this will
require removal of four or more well volumes' ; stabilization
occurred in these wells and more well purging was not needed to
accurately represent the ground water to be sampled.
Again, proper notice will be given PHS/EHD for future sampling at
this site.
Respectfully,
1", CP
Vern A.
