Laurie A. Cotulla , Program Manager
San Joaquin County Public Health Services
1601 East Hazelton Avenue
Stockton , CA 95201
Attn . Ms . Linda Turkatte
SUBJECT: USA Petroleum . Stat.ion ##65
Lodi , California
Dear Ms . Cotulla :
USA Petroleum (USA) is in receipt of your 'letter date June 27 ,
1991 . Within that letter" you state that quarterly monitoring will
be required for this site, USA acknowledges this requirement and
will begin quarterly monitoring . USA expects the first report will
be available in the next ..several weeks .
Also requested in your letter is a work plan for additional work
to the north and west of the USA site . You state that "zero lines"
of contamination must be .established before remedial alternatives
could ' be evaluated . USA would like to bring to your attention
several points which we believe shows there is no need for
immediate additional assessment work .
Attached to this letter are the analytical results from USA' s
Problem Assessment Report dated December 5 , 1989 . Also attached
is a map showing the locations of ground water monitoring wells at
this site . Well' MW-1 is the most northerly of the wells .
Analytical results:. show that MW--1 is very nearly clean with - only
benzene being over the .1 ppb drinking water standard and TPH under
1 ppm. Because of its low contaminant levels , and its up gradient
location , USA believes that MW-1 represents the northern most
extent of the dissolved plume .
In terms of westerly extent USA would like to point out that the
ground water flows in a generally south easterly direction . This
flow direction should greatly inhibit the westerly migration of the
contaminant plume . Also, the very low concentrations of
contaminants in wells MW-6 and MW--7 suggest that the plume is not
large in areal extent . Based on this information USA believes that
the westerly edge of the plume does not extend beyond the western
property boundary.
1261 E. 9th Street, Pomona, California 91 66 (714) 622-3424 ., FAX (714) 622-1002
