The placement of MW8 is 8 feet southwest and in the
down gradient ground water flow direction, see Figure 1 .
,i
Woodward Drilling Company (C-57 license, 581639) used a truck
mounted drilling rig,: Mobile model 13-57 with eight inch hollow
stem augurs to drill MW8 . The boring was hand augered by
Woodward Drilling Co. 'to 5' prior to the rig drilling as an added
precaution in the event 'hidden' piping or utilities exist that
were not identified. :', The rig equipment and augers were steam
r- cleaned prior to use, :. and the sampling equipment was cleaned in
the same fashion between each sampling interval . In addition,
all lubricated parts that were to enter or approach the borings
were lubricated with olive oil .
To document the soil ',samples -taken at each interval during the
drilling of the boring;, a WEGE field geologist prepared a boring
log. The samples were described and categorized using lithologic
descriptions and the Unified Soil Classification System (Appendix
A, Borehole Logs) .
i
The samples that were selected for analysis were based on the
criteria of the highest Photo Ionization Detector (PID) readings,
two representative zone samples, top of water and at the base of
the borehole . This information is presented in Table 1 .
The selected samples were analyzed for Total Fuel Hydrocarbons
(TFH) as gasoline, and Volatile Aromatic Hydrocarbons (BTEX)
utilizing EPA 5030 and 8020, respectively. i
MW8 was completed on February 8, 1993 to a depth of 60 feet . A
two inch PVC well with 25 feet of . 020" inch screen from 60 to 35
feet . The sand envelope for this well was #3 Monterey sand and a
lower seal of bentonite . A neat cement with 5% bentonite was
1
,r -a
