Ultramar, Inc. December 21, 1998
UST Closure Report Page 4
Beacon Station No. 492
Landfill in Manteca, California.
CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS
With the exception of MTBE and xylenes, petroleum hydrocarbons were not detected in the eight
soil samples collected from beneath the former USTs. Analytical results of soil samples
collected from beneath tanks T-1 and T-2 indicate that MTBE is present in the soil at depths
between 13.5 and 15 feet at concentrations from 0.0086 to 1.3 mg/kg. A 17-foot deep sample
collected from the south end of tank T-1 did not contain detectable levels of MTBE.
Soil samples taken from beneath the piping, the southeast dispenser, and southwest dispenser did
not contain obvious evidence of impact by petroleum hydrocarbons as evidenced by an absence
of odor, staining, or organic, vapors detectable with an organic vapor meter (OVM).
Additionally, laboratory analytical results indicate that the soil has not been impacted by diesel
fuel, gasoline, or specific fuel constituents including BTEX compounds and fuel oxygenates.
Laboratory analyses of soil samples from the northeast dispenser area indicate that petroleum
hydrocarbons and oxygenates are in the soil at a depth of five feet extending, at decreasing
levels, to 12.5 feet.
;.i BSK recommends that the Site be closed with no additional investigation or corrective action.
We recommend that a copy of this report be provided to the San Joaquin Environmental Health
Division.
CLOSING
We appreciate the opportunity to be of service to Ultramar, Inc. ,If you have questions regarding
this report, or if we can be of additional service, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Respectfully submitted,
BSK&Associates
`NC1Nc
o pWaRO oA
ar
Richard E.Johnson CEG
' No.EG 1452
Branch Manager
sr Eo Lo" ,!
REJ:Jgy qTF OF
Attachments
