Oct-15-97 04:49P shall 01 P.02 <br /> Mr.Ron Rowe C AMBRIA <br /> October 15, 1997 <br /> Site He"Uh and Safety Plant. We will prepare a comprehensive site safety plan to protect site workers. The <br /> plan will be kept tan site during field activities and signed by each site worker. <br /> Permits:Cambria will obtain well pennits from SJCPHS for the buring(s)and installation of the well(s)_ <br /> A boring permit application and a check for the permit fee in the amount of$89 are attached. <br /> Soil Baring: Cambria will drill the first soil boring to at least a 35 feet depth in the location near the <br /> southern dispenser island shown on Figure 1.This boring will be installed using a drill rig equipped with <br /> $winch hollow-stem augers,and a 5-foot long care barrel for continuous sampling.The sample cores will be <br /> preserved in acetate. <br /> If hydrocarbons ane detected in soil or ground water during the installation of the first boring,two additional <br /> wells will be installed during;the same mobilization, Field detection of hydrocarbons can be achieved by <br /> visual or olfactory means,or by a portable volatile vapor analyzer. The proposed locations for these wells <br /> are shown in Figure t. <br /> Soil Sampling: In addition to the Cambria standard protocol,Cambria will select soil samples for chemical <br /> analysis based historical ground water levels,on observations of staining and odor,and on the results of field <br /> screening with a portable vapor analyzer. <br /> At a minimum, three soil samples from the first boring will be analyzed: one each from the historically <br /> lowest ground water level(35 feet),the highest ground water level(5 feet),and the capillary fringe(expected <br /> to be approximately 20 feet,based an your information).The San Joaquin County Flood Control and Water <br /> Conservation District map entitled'Unes of Equal Depth to Dater in Wells"elated Fall 1977 is the reference <br /> that was used to determine the historically low ground water Level. <br /> If hydrocarbons are observed in the fust boring,two additional wells will be installed.. 'These borings will <br /> extend to approximately 25 feet and sampled at 5-foot intervals with a modified California split spoon <br /> sampler. <br /> one soil sample from each distinct litbological unit across the site will be preserved for physical analyses. <br /> For each location.Cambria will attempt to preserve two brass tubes, each 6 inches long by 2 inches in <br /> diameter. Soil observed to contain hydrocarbons will not be used for physical analyses. <br /> Water Sampling: For the first soil boring, Cambria will take discrete ground water samples at five foot <br /> intervals from the capillary fringe to the historically lowest ground water level.
