Until results from the
fourth quarter 2001 monitoring,Well 6 had been at non-detectable limits for MTBE in both the shallow
and deep groundwater zones.
The Fourth Quarter 2001 Monitoring Report, however, reveals for the first time a level of MTBE
of 1.1 ug/l in the deep groundwater zone. This is very troubling to the City of Ripon, and this result must
be explained and addressed by Cambria.
It is our understanding from Cambria's letter that the first quarter 2002 sampling event took place
in January, and that they would expedite the turn around time for the quarterly monitoring report and
would include recommendations as to whether the GWE system should remain shut down or be restarted'.
On behalf of the City,I would request that your office direct Cambria to also include in that report a
discussion of the continuing value of MW 6 as a sentry well,a discussion of the MTBE results in that
well, and its recommendations for further actions to protect Municipal Well 7,as well as to provide an
early deadline for submission of the First Quarter 2002 Monitoring Report.
e truly yours,
J ANNE
Attorney-at- aw
JMZ:rI
cc: Mr.Leon Compton
F:\documents\1084-100\JMZ\19818.doc
2291 Wes+Mnecll Lane Sui+e Bi 00 S+ocic+on, CA 95207
• Te.l 209.472.7700 • Fax 209.472.7986 • JVlodes+o"Tel. 209.525.8444
Professional Corporation
