GVa:W``t'^'' Dear Mr.Rowe: I
f
t G 4 VZ In our July 17,1997 meeting,you requested that Cambria Environmental Technology,Inc.(Cambria)
1('1/ CJV► liC/ modify our July 11,1997 investigation work plan for the Shell site referenced above to include two
l additional wells.Your request was based on your concern that the methyl tert-butyl ether(MTBE)
/1011'' V 1L detected at the adjacent Chevron Station could be from the Shell site. According to the analytic data s
that you provided for the Chevron site on July 18, 1997,MTBE was detected once last year,at
I maximum concentrations of only 13 parts per billion(ppb). Because the MTBE concentrations detected
WAll,-,Q at the Chevron site are below the current MTBE regulatory standard of 35 ppb,it is premature to install
three wells at the Shell station. We instead recommend installing the single well as originally proposed
I h 1"5u A1-
in our July 11. 1997 work plan and analyzing the ground water sample. If MTBE is detected at
sufficient concentrations to warrant additional wells, then we will install the wells within four weeks
d el r r r of receiving the analytic results for the first well. This approach will ensure that we install the
additional wells if and only if hydrocarbons including MTBE are detected in the initial source area well.
IIV Nrl Cambria will obtain county permits and schedule drilling upon receiving written work plan approval
from the SJCPHS. We will subunit our investigation report about six weeks after completing the field
