SJCEHD staff.approved of immediate
suspension of monitoring and sampling activities at this site in an electronic mail correspondence
elated June 21, 2005.. Monitoring and sampling activities for all wells at this site have been
discontinued as of the end of the second quarter of 2005.
HISTORICAL GROUNDWATER REMEDIATION
Interim Groundwater Remediation: Blaine began weekly purging of onsite monitoring well
MW-1 on November 10, 1998,and onsite extraction well EW-1 on March 11, 1999. This practice
continued until the groundwater extraction(GWE)system was started during March 2000.
Groundwater Remediation System Operation: Cambria installed a GWE system .at this site
which began operation in March 2000 and was shut down in July 2001. Hydrocarbon and MTBE
concentrations have been substantially reduced in groundwater beneath the site. The GWE
system extracted groundwater from well EW-1 at approximately five gallons per minute. An
estimate of contaminant mass removed by the GWE system is sunimanzed in the following table.
MASS REMOVAL BY GROUNDWATER EXTRACTION
Constituent Total Removed
Total Hydrocarbons 1.8 pounds
MTBE 15.2 pounds
Water 2,295,500 gallons
ANTICIPATED THIRD QUARTER 2005 ACTIVITIES
No monitoring or sampling is planned for the third quarter 2005 and beyond.
