Mr Dale Ramey
CABRIA January 24, 2000
11
tank A transfer pump will move the water through the filter vessels A new temporary
electrical service will be installed to serve the remediation system
Groundwater will be pumped from EW-1 at approximately 12 gallons per minute (gpm) The
maximum instantaneous rate of discharge to the sanitary sewer will be approximately 30 gpm
Cambria proposes to use a silt filter and two, 1,000-lbs carbon vessels in series to treat the
ground water before it is discharged to the sanitary sewer
GWE System Sampling and Analyses. Cambria will sample the GWE system on a weekly
basis for the first month of operation, then monthly thereafter Cambria will collect at least
three sets of samples from the extracted groundwater during each event 1) Influent to the two
carbon filters, 2) Between the filters (midfluent), and 3)Effluent of the filters
The samples will be analyzed by the same analyses that the monitoring wells are analyzed
Total petroleum hydrocarbon, calculated as gasoline (TPHg), benzene, toluene, ethyl benzene,
and xylenes, (BTEX) by EPA Methods 8015/8020 at a California certified laboratory The
samples will also be analyzed for oxygenated fuel additives Methyl tert-Butyl Ether (MTBE),
Tertiary Amyl Methyl Ether (TAME), di-Isopropyl Ether (DIPE), Ethyl tert-Butyl Ether
. (ETBE), tert-Butanol, and ethanol using EPA Method 8260 Methanol will be analyzed by EPA
Method 8015 (modified)
GWE Operation and Carbon Changeouts When hydrocarbons are detected in the sample
collected from the midfluent sampling location,a carbon changeout will be performed A carbon
changeout consists of removing and replacing the activated carbon filter media in the first
carbon vessel in series, then placing that vessel as the second vessel in series
Schedule
Upon receiving written work plan approval from the City of Ripon, Cambria will schedule the
startup of the GWE system
i
241-0324 2
