(Cambria) is
submitting this work plan to perform a subsurface investigation at the above-referenced site on
behalf of Equiva Services LLC. Our objective is to define the extent of hydrocarbons,
particularly methyl-tertiary butyl ether (MTBE), in groundwater beneath the site. Our proposed
scope of work for this investigation is described below.
SITE BACKGROUND
The site is an active Shell-branded gasoline service station. Surrounding land use is a mixture of
commercial and residential. An elementary school is located south and southwest of the site..
a
.1996 Soil Sampling During Site Upgrade: Subsurface investigations performed during upgrade'
activities at the site in 1996 indicated elevated hydrocarbons in soil near the western dispenser
and on the east side of the former underground storage tanks (USTs). The highest total petroleum
Oakland, CA hydrocarbon as gasoline (TPHg) concentration detected in soil was 1,300 milligrams per
San Ramon, CA kilogram (mg/kg) from 13 feet below grade (fbg) from beneath the east end of former
Sonoma, CA
Portland, OR underground storage tanks. This area was subsequently over-excavated to 25 fbg.
Cambria 1998 Groundwater Monitoring Well Installation: In 1998, three groundwater monitoring wells
Environmental (MW-1, MW-2 and MW-3) were installed at the site. No TPHg, benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene
Technology,Inc.
and xylene isomers (BTEX) or MTBE were detected in 'soil samples collected from MW-2 and
1144 65th Street MW-3. Only low concentrations of these analytes were detected in soil samples from MW-1.
Suite B
Oakland,CA 94608
Tel(510)420-0700
Fax(510)420-9170
