The permit from the San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department
(EHD) for destruction of three groundwater monitoring wells located at the site is presented
in Attachment A.
SITE DESCRIPTION
The site is an operating Chevron service station located in a commercial area of Manteca,
California. The current station facilities include three dispenser islands under a common
canopy, three 12,000 gallon gasoline underground storage tanks (USTs), and a station
building (Figure 2).
WELL DESTRUCTION ACTIVITES
On May 20, 2002 monitoring wells MW-1 through MW-3 (Figure 2) were destroyed by
Cascade Drilling, Incorporated of Rancho Cordova, California, a State-licensed drilling
company. Well destruction activities were observed by a SECOR geologist. Groundwater
monitoring wells were destroyed in accordance with San Joaquin County requirements and
Bulletin 74-90: California Well Standards, California Department of Water Resources, June
1991. The three monitoring wells were abandoned by first excavating around the outside of
the well box approximately twelve inches wider than the well box. The well boxes and fill
material were then removed from around the well. casing. The wells were then drilled out
around the well casing to approximately three feet below ground surface (bgs) and the well
casing was cut off approximately six inches above the bottom of the excavation and removed.
3017 Kilgore Road, Suite 100, Rancho Cordova, CA 95670 916.861.0400 916.861.0430 Fax www.secor.com
