The purpose of this assessment was to determine if methyl tertiary butyl ether
(MtBE) could be a potential threat to a municipal drinking water supply well (well #13)
located to the southeast of the site (Figure 1). The work was performed in accordance with
SECOR's work plan dated September 19, 2001. Additional activities proposed in the
September 19, 2001 work plan, including cone penetration test (CPT) borings and slug
testing of wells, were not performed.
SITE DESCRIPTION
The site is an operating Chevron service station located in a commercial area of Manteca,
California. The current station facilities include three dispenser islands under a common
canopy, three 12,000 gallon gasoline underground storage tanks (USTs), and a station
building (Figure 2).
ASSESMENT ACTIVITIES AND FINDINGS
On October 18, 2001, a SECOR representative observed Cascade Drilling Incorporated
(Cascade) of Rancho Cordova, California, advance three soil borings to collect soil samples
for chemical analysis at the locations shown in Figure 2. The soil borings were advanced
using 8-inch hollow-stem augers to approximately 31 feet below ground surface (bgs). Upon
completion of drilling, a 2-inch diameter groundwater monitoring well was installed in each
boring. The wells were screened from approximately 5 feet above to 10 feet below first
3017 Kilgore Road, Suite 100, Rancho Cordova, CA 95670 916.861.0400 916.861.0430 Fax www,secor.com
