Hunter & Associates for the above referenced
site.
The area of the county where this site is located has water provided by private
wells and first water is drinking water. For future land use decisions, the extent
of the petroleum hydrocarbon contamination must be determined.
Although the gradient at this site is divergent, groundwater flow has been to the
southwest most often and there is not a monitoring well in that direction.
Furthermore, monitoring well #1 is not screened at or above first water so water
samples collected from this well may not be representative of first water level
quality. As groundwater has risen, TPH-diesel has been evidenced in monitoring
well #1 even though its screened interval is below first water.
The additional information required to delineate the lateral and vertical extent of
contamination at this site can be obtained by the installation of a 2 inch
monitoring well using an 8 inch outside diameter hollow stem auger on the drill
rig. The cost of this smaller well and boring including time and materials should
be less than the 4 inch monitoring well proposed. Therefore, PHS/EHD
approves of the installation of a 2 inch diameter monitoring well in an 8 inch
diameter boring.
Soil samples should be collected every 5 feet or with change in the lithology. An
organic vapor detector (PID or FID) must be utilized during this field work. Soil
samples to be analyzed will be determined by PHS/EHD staff and the consultant,
based on field observations and former information obtained at the site.
The work plan does not address the storage of soil cuttings generated during the
drilling. Soil cuttings must be placed on an impermeable surface and covered or
properly containerized until proper disposal has been decided.
A Division of San Joaquin County Health Care Services
