It is now imperative to fully define the extent of the
soil and groundwater contamination plumes. Additional soil borings and monitoring wells need to be
installed until the full extent is defined.
At this time monitoring well #2, located in an identified general downgradient direction, is at such a
distance from the former tank pit area that it would not yield useful information as part of a
groundwater monitoring program.
In accordance with the Tri-Regional Guidelines, a monitoring well will need to be installed in each down
gradient direction identified during the assessment process. It appears from the data collected to date
that the groundwater flow direction at this site is divergent. This is most likely due to the various
domestic and agricultural wells located in the vicinity.
Therefore, additional data on groundwater flow direction(s) can be collected during the next two to
three quarters of groundwater monitoring to determine the best placement for the additional wells.
Also, more frequent groundwater measurement intervals may give a more accurate representation of
actual groundwater conditions and is recommended. After the additional data is gathered a workplan
for additional soil borings and monitoring wells will be requested.
If you have any questions please contact Linda Turkatte, REHS, of my staff at (209) 468-0339.
Jogi Khanna, M.D.,M.P.H.
Health Offic
aurie A.
