Hunter and
Associates, and has the following comments.
The three soil borings/monitoring wells drilled during the first
phase of the investigation did not adequately define the soil
contamination plume. Figure #5 in the report presents a cross
section of the estimated extent of the soil contamination.
Although there are situations where the extent of contaminant
plumes may be inferred based on available data, additional data
for this site needs to be gathered before the contaminant plume
is fully defined.
In addition, a monitoring well needs to be installed in the
verified downgradient direction. This well is essential in
verifying the quality of the groundwater beneath the site and
also to provide a vital data point for an effective groundwater
monitoring program.
Pursuant to Section 2652 (d) of the Underground Storage Tank
Regulations (California Code of Regulations, Title 23 , Chapter
16) quarterly .status reports are to be submitted to this office
and the Central Valley Regional Water Quality Control Board
(CVRWQCB) until the investigation is complete. Please begin
submitting quarterly reports effective immediately.
The recommendation in the report to sample only monitoring well
#1 appears to be warranted at this time. All three wells should
be monitored for depth to water and groundwater gradient and/or
inferred flow ditection(s) on a quarterly basis. Monitoring well
#1 should be sampled on a quarterly basis. Based on the
monitoring and sampling results from monitoring well #1 and the
downgradient monitoring well, a groundwater monitoring program
can be established utilizing the monitoring well(s) that will
provide the most useful and needed data.
RECEIVED AUG 2 5 1992
A Division of San Joaquin Counry Health(are 5crnccs
