be placed around the well casing from the bentonite to the
surface . The pipe will be capped with a lock type cap and a
"Christy-type" or similar box placed around the well head
I, and cemented in place , flush with the surface After well
completion, the driller will develop the wells by swabbing
using a hard rubber disk, or similar swab, for at least 15
' minutes As a survey reference point , the high side of the
protruding casing will be notched and marked
' All cuttings and water from development operations will be
collected in seal top metal drums , stored on site
temporarily and later properly disposed of , the disposable
procedure is dependent upon contamination found This
' procedure will be done by JTO, licensed waste hauler
Groundwater will be sampled and tested after bailing at
least 5 volumes of casing water from the well and the water
level allowed to recover This will be done by a contract
service known to the EHD (possibly Del-Tech Geotechnical
' Services) and witnessed by WJH An electric type water/
product level locater will be used . The sample water will
also be tested for pH and the temperature measured as the
wells are balled. About one month later water from the wells
' will be sampled and tested again, using the same procedures
Cross contamination will be prevented by using sterile
bailer equipment and on-site cleaning as necessary Water
samples collected will be placed in sterile containers
supplied by the laboratory that will run the tests , pickled
as necessary, and placed in an ice chest for transportation
' to the laboratory . At some time between the water samplings ,
the relative elevations of the notched casing tops will be
surveyed
' Property quality control procedures , such as blank
containers and laboratory spike tests will be run
' All samples will be tested for BTEX, TPH (G) and TPH (D)
This testing program should be sufficient to discover any
hydrocarbon contaminants Previous tests did not adequately
cover the heavier components , that is the reason for using
both the TPH-G&D tests All test will be run to Tri -
Regional guidelines
4" casing is recommended in MW # 1 because an unknown amount
of hydrocarbons leaked from the tanks prior to discovery and
if found floating on the water table will have to be
' removed A larger casing size will enable a larger pump to
be used and lessen removal time
SAFETY PLAN
A generalized safety plan is attached, which is site
specific as to local health services JTO, the hazardous
' waste removal contractor , will administer the safety plan
, 5
