FIELD WORK FRIDAY, APRIL 3, 1992
' Spectrum Drilling Co . , Van Leonard, Driller, and DRA were on
site and commenced auger operations at 9 :AM on Monitor Well
# 1 . This well and subsequent wells will be referred to as
' MW # 1 , MW # 2 and MW # 3 .
All well locations were remeasured after drilling was
completed and the final locations are shown on attached
Figure # 1 (Fig. # 3 from work plan) . All well depths in
the report below will be with reference to ground level
' (bgl ) . The area being flat to the eye, vertical adjustments
for boring log purposes are not needed. Water table and
hydraulic slope data measurements use Mean Sea Level (MSL)
as a reference .
Auger boring on MW #1 commenced using 10" nominal size
hollow auger flights . About 4" of asphalt/rock surface was
' penetrated. Boring from surface to 51 . Dark grey-brown clay,
moist, no hydrocarbon odor. From 51 to 7 ' • Tan to brownish
clay, dry, slight odor, possibly hydrocarbons . From 71 to
17 ' • Tan to brownish clay, small cuttings, 1/8" to 91 ,
' larger cuttings to 1 " to 171 . From 171 to 24' ' Clay as
above, gradual color change to darker brown, slightly moist,
strong degraded petroleum odor at 221 -241 . Sample # 1 at 241
to 25 1/21 , tan to brown clay as above, no discernible odor.
An extra sample, labeled X, was taken at this point for a
quality control check. From 241 to 32 ' ' Brownish clay as
' above, moist, very warm to touch. From 32 ' to 34 ' Clay as
above, strong hydrocarbon odor. Sample # 2 at 34 1/2 ' to
36 ' , brownish grey clay as above, 1 " of coarse sand at about
361 , strong hydrocarbon odor in clay. From 361 to 411 :
' Brownish grey clay as above, strong hydrocarbon odor. From
411 to 461 : Clay as above changing to dark brown, sandy clay
at about 471 , hydrocarbon odor at 441 , pebbles in clay.
' Linda Turkette, EHD, arrived on site at about 11 : 30 AM.
' Sample # 3 at 471 to 48 1/2 ' , brown, sandy to gravelly clay.
From 471 to 491 . Clay as above changing to blue clay at 49 '
From 491 to 541 : Brownish clay as above, dry, hydrocarbon
odor, cuttings clumping to 1 1/2" in size, clay balls at 54 '
' with strong odor, no pebbles or gravel . From 541 to 571 :
Brownish clay as above, silty, brown sand at 571 , warm,
hydrocarbon odor. Sample # 4 at 571 to 58 1/21 , brownish
' clay changing to blue clay at bottom of sample, black carbon
inclusions . From 571 to 67 ' : brownish and blue clay, warm
moist, light hydrocarbon odor. Sample # 5 at 671 to 68 1/21 ,
brown, silty clay, almost reddish brown color, little or no
odor.
