" k'" KLEINFELDER <br /> 3 BACKGROUND <br /> Kleinfelder understands that on March 18, 1997 a 250-gallon underground storage tank (UST) <br /> was removed from the project site, adjacent to a shop building Reportedly eight yards of soil <br /> was stockpiled from the excavation Two soil samples were collected by GeoAnalytical <br /> Laboratories of Modesto, California and analyzed for Benzene, Toluene, Ethylbenzene and <br /> Xylenes (BTEX), and Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons as referenced to Diesel (TPH-D) The two <br /> soil samples were collected from the stockpiled soil (SP) and from within the excavation at a <br /> depth of approximately 7 feet below yuf€ace_grade (bgs) No BTEX constituents were reported, <br /> however, TPH-D was detected at 13 mg/kg and-130 mg/kg, om the stockpile and from the <br /> excavation bottom, respectively <br /> A "Notice of Responsibility" letter dated January 8, 1998, was sent to Manteca Unified School <br /> District by PHS/EHD, concerning the tank removal site PHS/EHD requested further assessment <br /> of potential diesel contamination Manteca Unified School District has requested Kleinfelder to <br /> submit this proposal/workplan to address these concerns That proposal titled "Revised <br /> Proposal, Limited Soil and Groundwater Assessment, Manteca Unified School District Farm <br /> Site, Former Underground Storage Tank, 2901 Louise Avenue, Manteca, California", dated <br /> August 20, 1998, was submitted to Mr John Fultz of MUSD Following approval by the <br /> District, Kleinfelder's proposed services were initiated The results of those proposed services <br /> ai e detailed in this report <br /> 1 <br /> 20-1311-40 E01/20198039 Page 4 of 13 <br /> © 1999,Kleinfelder,Inc January 20, 1999 <br />
