SMTH
ETNIAOMMENTAL TECHNOLOGIES CORPORATION i ,) {,
September 22, 1995
94-337
Ms. Mary Meays
San Joaquin County Public Health Services
Environmental Health Division
P.O. Box 388
Stockton , California 95201-0388
Subject: Third Quarter, 1995 Status Report and Soil Sampling Plan, Manteca Unified
School District, 2901 East Louise Avenue, Lathrop, California
Dear Ms. Meays:
This report summarizes the results of the environmental investigation conducted during the
third quarter 1995 by Smith Environmental Technologies Corporation (Smith Environmental)
at the subject site shown on Figure 1. The work was conducted at the request of the Manteca
Unified School District and San Joaquin County Public Health Services (SJCPHS). The work
included measuring depth to groundwater, collecting groundwater samples from the wells for
subjective and laboratory analyses, evaluating the groundwater gradient, estimating the volume
of residual petroleum hydrocarbon impacted soil and developing a soil sampling plan for the
stockpiled soil onsite.
BACKGROUND
Two underground storage tanks were removed from the site by SEMCO in June 1993, The
tanks, one 12,000-gallon gasoline and one 12,000-gallon diesel, were removed on June 15,
1993, and analytical results for soil samples collected during the tank removal recorded
elevated concentrations of petroleum hydrocarbons. A 1,000-gallon tank had been previously
removed.
On July 7 through 9, 1993, the former tank location was over-excavated to a depth of 19 feet
below ground surface (bgs). Some soil and groundwater samples collected from the
excavation on July 8 and 9, 1993, contained concentrations of total petroleum hydrocarbons as
gasoline (TPHg), benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylenes (BTEX) above method detection
limits.
n:115010713QTR95
1710 Main Street • Escalon,CA 95320 (209)838-3507 • fax(209)838-3509
Engineering • Consulting Remediation • Construction
