J y
WrFH
RESIDUAL SOIL CONTAMINATION
Petroleum impacted soil was encountered, during the drilling of SB2, SB3, MW1, MW2 and
MW3 on October 10 and 11, 1994. The data from the overexcavation done on July 7 through
12, 1993, indicate impacted soil in the northwest end of the excavation. The soil samples
collected from MW 1 during its construction indicate the soil is not contaminated in the
northeast end of the excavation. Soil samples from MW3 indicate the soil is not impacted to
the extreme north northwest of the excavation and soil samples from MW2 indicate the soil is
not impacted to the east of the excavation.
Based on the concentrations of petroleum hydrocarbons in SB2 and SB3 (Table 2) and the
concentrations of petroleum hydrocarbons in the confirmation samples collected on July 7
through 12, 1993 (Table 1), there appears to be approximately 130 cubic yards of impacted
soil in the northwest corner of the excavation. The impacted soil is located approximately
between 15 and 18 feet bgs. An approximate area of contamination is shown on Figure 5.
STOCKPILED SOIL SAMPLING PLAN
To characterize the stockpiled soil, Smith Environmental proposes to collect one discreet
sample for every 50 cubic yards of soil, a total of 18 samples. The samples will be collected
from 2 feet below the surface of the stockpile. The samples will be placed on ice and
transported under chain-of-custody documentation to Argon Laboratories in Ceres, California.
The samples will then be composited in the laboratory at a 2:1 ratio and analyzed for TPHd,
TPHg and BTEX. The stockpiled soil will remain onsite pending laboratory analysis to
determine its final disposition.
If you have any questions please contact us at (209) 838-3507.
Respectfully submitted,
Smith Environmental Technologies Corporations
-DAW 4"Ni
Drew Van Allenr70
;
Staff Scientist pp .a EYP
F:fCf ;A91 ...J •.:
Jeanne Homsey, P.E.
Registered Engineer No. C47410
Attachments
n:115010713QTR95
