borings were continuously cored, and soil samples were collected from
. the borings for lithologic description, potential chemical analysis, and
head-space analysis Soil samples were screened for the presence of
organic vapors using a photo ionization detector (PID) PID readings
are recorded on the boring logs
Number of Borings- Two borings (B-1 and B-2 ) Boring locations are shown on Plate 2
Baring Depths 35 and 28 feet below grade (fbg }
Ground Water Depths: Ground water was not encountered during the investigation A small
zone of free water present in the formation was first observed at
approximately 14 7 fbg in Boring B-1 during the investigation This
zone did not appear to extend past 17 fbg in Boring B-1, and was not
encountered in Boring B-2
Sediment Lithology Lithology encountered while drilling the borings consisted of clay
(CL), to depths of approximately 12 to 14 fbg, underlain by clayey
sand (SC) and silt (ML) to depths of approximately 17 to 18 fbg,
underlain by sand (SP) to depths of approximately 21 to 23 fbg,
underlain by silty sand (SM), clay (CL) and silt (ML) to the total
explored depth
Chemical Analyses Four soil samples from Boring B-1 and three soil samples from
Boring B-2 were selected for chemical analysis A water sample
collected from the free water zone encountered in Boring B-I was also
analyzed Samples were analyzed for Total Purgeable Petroleum
Hydrocarbons (TPPH) by EPA Method 8015 (modified), benzene,
toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylenes, (BTEX) by EPA Method 8020,
and tertiary-butyl alcohol, methyl-tertiary-butyl ether (MTBE), di-
isopropyl ether, ethyl-tertiary-butyl ether, and tertiary-amyl-methyl
ether by EPA Method 8260
Soil Disposal. Approximately 0 11 tons of soil were generated during field activities
This soil was profiled for disposal at Forward, Inc 's Manteca,
California landfill and transported by Manley and Sons Trucking, Inc
of Sacramento, California on January 16, 1998
Backfill Method Borings B-1 and B-2 were backfilled with cement grout to the surface
I
240-0832 3
