Main St., Manteca, CA (Site Code: 1434)
Workplan for Subsurface Investigation
Dear Ms. Duncan:
We are writing on behalf of Manteca Equipment Rental to provide you with a workplan to
investigate the extent of soil contamination and to determine if groundwater has been impacted
from leaking underground storage tanks (USTs) at the subject facility. The location of the
facility is shown on Figure 1.
I
Background
On December 18, 1990 two USTs <one 500 gallon gasoline and one 500 gallon-diesel) were
removed by SEMCO of Modesto, California. One soil sample was collected from beneath each
UST at a depth of approximately 9 feet. The samples were submitted to State-Certified
GeoAnalytical Laboratories, Inc. for analysis. The sample collected beneath thegasoline UST
was analyzed for total petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline (TPHg) using modified EPA Method
3 8015 and for benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylenes (BTEX) by EPA Method 8020. The
sample collected from beneath the diesel UST was analyzed for BTEX and for total extractable
petroleum hydrocarbons as diesel (TPHd), kerosene (TPHk) and motor oil (TPHmo) using EPA
Method 3550.
Although the County inspection report indicates that no hydrocarbon odors or discoloration were
present in the tank pit, the laboratory analysis detected gasoline and diesel hydrocarbons in the f
soil samples.
I
I
manteca.egp\workplan 4
