ION-SITE l.11 F,v-
TECHNOLOGIES r.r.1P13 -t-. CA')rDD8
Work Plan for the Installation of Soil Vapor Extraction/Groundwater Co-extraction Wells
Former Diamond Lumber Site, 151 South Main Street,Manteca,California
September 8, 1997
This work plan is prepared at the request of the San Joaquin County Environmental
Health Division and pertains solely to the installation of the proposed SVE/GW co-
extraction wells.
Location: Former Diamond Lumber Site
151 South Main Street
Manteca, California
Site Owner: Value Reclamation Corporation
1715 S. Bascom Avenue
Campbell, California 95008
Contact: Mr. Nairn Albert
(408) 371-6800
Background
On July 23, 1997, On-Site Technologies, Inc. (OST), on behalf of Value Reclamation
Corporation, submitted a Corrective Action PIan for remediating soil and groundwater at the
former Diamond Lumber site located at 151 South Main Street, Manteca, California. Although
the report was not approved as a formal Corrective Action Plan, the approval was implied for
implementing the remediation plan as an interim measure while data was developed to support
the formal Corrective Action Plan.
A key provision of the remediation proposal was the installation of four soil vapor and
groundwater co-extraction wells. The proposed design of these wells has been successfully
implemented on numerous similar remediation projects.
Scone of Work
QST proposes to install four new extraction wells at the locations illustrated on the Remediation
Site Plan, attached Figure 1. The wells will consist of 4'/z-inch diameter casing installed within
a 12-inch diameter boring. The wells will be completed to a depth of 30 feet below ground
surface (bgs).
The wells will be perforated in the interval from 10 feet bgs to 25 feet bgs except for co-
extraction well EW-1, which will be perforated in the interval from 7 feet to 30 feet bgs. The
bottom five feet of casing in all proposed wells will be blank. The purpose for the blank is to
provide a silt settling sump so that the extraction pump can be placed as near to the bottom of
producing zone as possible, while retarding production of water from the layers deeper than 25
feet. One bucket of bentonite pellets will be placed at the bottom of each well, beneath the sand
pack. Another bucket will be placed between the sand pack and the cement seal. The
construction details of the proposed wells are illustrated on attached schematics, Figures 2 and 3.
(408) 371-481u w FAX (408) 371-2010 v Califciria C.o«tracEol s i :cr j re
