Manteca Quarterly Groundwater Monitor,nA Pale 1 <br /> 1.0 INTRODUCTION <br /> Steffen Robertson and Kirsten (US ), Inc (SRK) has been retained by Diamond Lumber <br /> 4 Company to perform the quarterly groundwater monitoring of three monitoring wells installed <br /> by SRK at the Diamond Lumber facility located at 151 South Main Street, Manteca, California <br /> The Scope of Work included sampling three groundwater monitoring wells to investigate the <br /> potential for groundwater contaminant migration from underground storage tanks (USTs) that <br /> were removed from the site in 1985 The three groundwater monitoring wells were installed by <br /> SRK in November, 1991, under the direct guidance of Ms Margaret Lagorio, Senior REHS, San <br /> Joaquin County Public Health Services/Environmental Health Division (PHS/EHD) Specific <br /> information regarding subsurface soil conditions and monitoring well construction details is <br /> presented in SRK's Phase II Environmental Audit Report for this site dated December 1991 <br /> ' Future monitoring will be required to include both the three wells discussed above and the three <br /> wells previously installed by Blymer Engineers, Inc <br /> The quarterly groundwater sampling activities were performed by fully qualified SRK <br /> professionals under the technical guidance and direct supervision of Rob D CrMlym, an <br /> Environmental Geoscientist and registered Environmental Professional (NAEP 1792) also <br /> registered as an Environmental Assessor in California (0035), Nevada (EM0109), and <br /> Washington Geologic and hydrogeologic aspects were completed under supervision and guidance <br /> of Greg W Knell, California Registered Geologist 4692 <br /> 1.1 Background Information <br /> During November 1991 an SRK Field H dro eolo ist supervised the placement of three <br /> monitoring wells and two test hole during November 18 through November 21, 1991 Permission <br /> to install a fourth monitoring well upgradient from the former USTs was not granted by the <br /> Southern Pacific Railroad at the time of the investigation The monitoring wells are labelled <br /> SRK-MWI through SRK-MW3,while the test holes are designated as SRK-BH1 and SRK-BH2 <br /> Figure 1 contains the monitoring locations Turner Explorations Inc, a California licensed driller, <br /> was retained to perform drilling services using a rotary drill rig equipped with hollow stem augers <br /> The augers were steam cleaned before each monitoring well was installed Soil samples were <br /> collected at 5-foot intervals during the installation of each monitoring well and test hole using a <br /> California split-spoon sampler lined with brass tubes The sampler and brass tubes were pre- <br /> cleaned before each sampling event using non-phosphate soap, then rinsed with deionized water <br /> All cuttings and samples were collected for logging and testing for organic vapors using a Thermo <br /> Environmental Instruments 580A organic vapor meter (OVM) No odors or petroleum soil <br /> staining were observed in any of the soil samples OVM readings were less than 1 ppm The <br /> drilling logs were carefully reviewed by an SRK geologist registered in California (Gregory W <br /> Knell, California Registered Geologist No 4692) <br /> �f <br /> Analytical soil samples were selected during the boring of each monitoring well and test hole at <br /> depths of 15 feet (seasonal high groundwater level) and 30 feet (saturated zone) and submitted <br /> ,:so.zx prv,,cV:x Steffen Robertson and KnIen <br />
