Quarterly Groundwater Monitoring Report No 1 November 3, 1997
1
• On September 10, 1997, water level measurements were obtained and groundwater samples
' collected from wells BEI-MW1, BEI-MW2, BEI-MW3, SRK-MW1, SRK-MW2, SRK-MW3,
MW-7 and MW-8
' 4.0 RESULTS
The results of the laboratory analyses of the groundwater samples and the water level
measurements are discussed in the following sections
' 4.1 Analytical Results
The laboratory analytical results indicated that MTBE was not detected in any of the samples
submitted for analyses Laboratory analyses did indicate TPHg concentrations in excess of 1,000
parts per billion (ppb) in monitoring wells, BEI-MWI, BEI-MW3 and SRK-MW2 at
concentrations of 5,300 ppb, 110,000 ppb and 14,000 ppb, respectively TPHg concentrations
' in the other wells ranged from 130 ppb to 640 ppb Concentrations of benzene, toluene and
ethylbenzene in excess of 1,000 ppb were only detected in monitoring well BEI-MW3 at
concentrations of 11,000 ppb, 3,100 ppb and 1,400 ppb, respectively Detected concentrations
of benzene in the other wells ranged from 7 5 ppb to 270 ppb Concentrations of total xylenes
in excess of 1,000 ppb were detected in monitoring wells BEI-MW3 and SRK-MW2 at
concentrations of 9,900 ppb and 1,100 ppb, respectively Detected concentrations of total
xylenes in the other wells ranged from 8 6 ppb to 220 ppb The current analytical results and
previous OST sampling analytical results are shown on Table 2 Historical analytical data is
included in Appendix B The Certified Analytical Reports and Chain of Custody Records are
included in Appendix C
' 4.2 Groundwater Elevations and Gradients
A summary of the groundwater elevation measurements from current and previous OST
monoitormg is shown on Table 3 Groundwater elevation contours for September 10, 1997, are
shown on Figure 3 Since the May 16, 1997, sampling, groundwater elevations dropped an
average of 163 feet, ranging from -156 feet, in monitoring well MW-7, to -169 feet, in
monitoring well SRK-MWl On February 13, 1997, the direction of groundwater flow was
generally to the north-northeast at a gradient of approximately 0 001 Historical groundwater
' elevation data is included in Appendix B,historical groundwater gradients are shown on Figure
4 Copies of the field purge/sampling worksheets are included as Appendix A
OST -
701-1-2 ginl Page 3
