Claudio Dell 'Eva
January 3, 1991
Page 2
D. ) Tri-Regional Board Staff Recommendations states that a
groundwater investigation is. required if seasonal
groundwater is less than 50 feet and soil contamination
is found at or below the seasonal high groundwater levels
or the soil contains layers of sand or gravel. The soil
sample taken on November 22, 1988 at ten feet had 77
parts per million total petroleum hydrocarbons which is
at seasonal high groundwater level and the soil is sandy.
E. ) All contaminated soil was placed back into the pit after
each excavation and as such, soil contamination remains
at this site.
Due to the above mentioned conditions which exist at this site,
PHS/EHD still believes a groundwater investigation is necessary at
this site. Since the gradient has been established, the
installation of one monitoring well 10 feet from the tank pit in
the verified downgradient direction would be a starting point to
this investigation. A work plan should be submitted by February
28, 1991.
If you have any further questions, contact Margaret Lagorio, Senior
REHS, of my staff at (209) 468--3449 .
Jog
i , M.D. , M.P.H.
Healt;Ta
icer
4
v
urie A.
