A
Lancaster
I
Laboratories
{
September 28, 2005"
Ms. Deanna Harding
Gettler-Ryan Inc.
Suite J -
6747 Sierra Court ,
Dublin, CA 94568
Subject: Trip Blank Contamination
LLI Sample Number: 4596162
Facility Number: 91452
City, State: Ripon, CA
Dear Ms. Harding:
Between July 15, 2005 and September 15, 2005, we experienced low-level toluene and total xylene.
hits in trip blanks submitted with your samples. The contamination range was 0.5—2.7 Ng&for each
analyte. All of these hits were just above the Method Detection Limit(MDL) and well below the Level
of Quantitation (LOQ). ;
Lancaster Laboratories performed an investigation to determine the cause of the low-level
contamination in the.trip blank; however,we were unable to identify the cause. The investigation
_ included discussions with our bottles vendor and a review of the analytical lot check that was
performed on the hydrochloric acid used to preserve the bottles. The laboratory storage blanks that:
were analyzed during the same time frame did not show a trend in toluene hits.
Based on this investigation, the following corrective action plan has been put into place to prevent a
reoccurrence:
Each shipment of 40-mL vials that is received at the laboratory will be tested for volatile l
contamination prior to trip blank preparation. If there are multiple lots in a shipment, a ,li
bottle should be taken from each lot. This additional testing will help to eliminate the l
possibility of the laboratory preparing trip blanks in contaminated bottles. "
The volaflle laboratories have been instructed to investigate any evidence of
contamination in trip blank samples prior to releasing analytical reports.
corrective action Ian lease contact me at
If you questions or concerns about thise plan, p
Y
717-656-2300 Ext. 1812.
Sincerely, b
/ti U tarn ,
Amy L.
