ATTACHMENT B
FIELD PROCEDURES
Chevron Service Station 9-1452, 334 East Main Street, Ripon, California
Health and Safety
As required by the Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) Standard
"Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response" guidelines (29 CFR 1910 120), and
by California Occupational Health and Safety Administration (Cal-OSHA) "Hazardous
Waste Operations and Emergency Response" guidelines (CCR Title 8, Section 5192),
SECOR prepared / will prepare a Site-Specific Health and Safety Plan for use during
fieldwork The field staff and contractors reviewed/ will review the Site-Specific Health and
Safety Plan before beginning field operations at the site
Geoprobe Borings
The soil borings were advanced using Geoprobe equipment to approximately 40 feet bgs A
SECOR representative using the Unified Soil Classification System and standard geologic
techniques logged soil samples from each boring colleted in five-foot intervals Soil samples
for logging were collected in 1-inch hollow drive rod with a Lexan Iiner in approximately 4-
foot lengths Soil samples for chemical analysis were retained in the Lexan liners, capped
with Teflon squares and plastic end caps, and sealed in clean zip-lock bags The samples
were placed on ice for transport to the laboratory accompanied by chain-of-custody
documentation Down-hole drilling and sampling equipment was steam-cleaned prior to and
following completion of each sample interval
Groundwater samples were collected from each boring using a hydropunch and a stainless
steel bailer Groundwater samples were placed in EPA approved sample vials and placed on
ice for transport to the laboratory accompanied by chain-of-custody documentation
Sampling equipment was steam-cleaned prior to and following completion of each sample
Laboratory Procedures for Soil and Groundwater Samples
Soil and groundwatersamples collected were analyzed for the presence of TPHg and BTEX
by DHS LUFT method, methanol by EPA Method 8015, and MtBE, DIPE, TAME, EtBE,
TBA, EDB, 1,2-DCA, and ethanol by EPA Method 8260B
Exploratory Drilling
The soil borings will be advanced using 8-inch hollow-stem auger drilling equipment
Bonngs will be logged by a SECOR representative using the Unified Soil Classification
System and standard geologic techniques Soil samples for logging will be collected
continuously below 40 feet bgs using a California-modified split-spoon sampler Soil
samples for chemical analysis will be collected in 5-foot intervals below 40 feet bgs and
retained in brass, stainless steel, or plastic liners, capped with Teflon squares and plastic end
caps, and sealed in zip-lock bags The samples will be placed on ice for transport to the
laboratory accompanied by chain-of-custody documentation Down-hole drilling and
sampling equipment will be steam-cleaned prior to and following the completion of each soil
